This type of coral is collected in the waters near Japan, and is different from the coral collected in the Mediterranean Sea.
There is always a white part called Shirofu in the center of the log, and it is cut to avoid showing it as much as possible, but the white part often appears on the back side of balls and loose pieces. It has a sense of transparency, and when carefully polished, it has a beautiful luster, as if covered with a transparent film. The dark color is red with a slight purplish tinge, giving it a noble feel. The particularly dark colored one is called blood red and is the most valuable type, and the darkest color can be obtained off the coast of Kochi Prefecture.
